AkWarm 2 Demonstration Version Download Page
This is a demonstration version of the AKWarm 2 energy analysis and home energy rating software.
It is not for official ratings, nor is there any technical
support for this product. Results calculated by the software may vary from
official ratings depending upon user inputs.
Software Requirements and Installation
- Your operating system must be Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. If you are using Windows XP,
your installation must have at least Service Pack 2 installed. To install the most recent
Windows XP Service pack, go to the
Windows XP Service Pack 3 web page.
- You must have Microsoft Word version 2003, 2007, or later to view
and print out the Improvement Options Report.
- Click the link near the bottom of the page to download the setup program for the
AkWarm 2 software.
After clicking the link you may be able to directly "Run" the setup program or you may be
forced to save it to your hard drive. If you save it to the hard drive, you should then "Open"
the saved file or double-click it to start the installation program.
Important Notes
- For some computers, the installer will first install the Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5
Service Pack 1 (SP1),
which could take as long as 40 minutes on slow Internet connections.
All installations of future releases of AkWarm on your same computer
will not require this lengthy process and will install quickly.
- After installing the software, you should have an icon on your desktop to run the software
or you can find the program in the "AkWarm" program group under the start menu.

Important Information about Entering Garage Components (Residential AkWarm only): Starting with this release of AkWarm, any garage shell components in new Residential ratings should have their "Temperature" input set to "Garage". In the past, AHFC rating policy has required that these components be entered at "Living Space" temperature. This change to Garage temperature will improve the accuracy of energy, improvement, and design heat load calculations. The AkWarm code has been modified so that this change will not affect the rating score assigned to the home; the rating points will be the same as if the garage components were entered at Living Space temperature.
To assist in implementing this change, the "Add Garage..." wizard will now create all of its components with a "Garage" temperature setting. Also, if you wish to convert the garage components in an older AkWarm file to Garage temperature, a new tool has been added to the Shell screen to do that. The "Find Garage Components..." button will bring up a tool that will make it easier to find garage components in an AkWarm file and change those components from Living Space to Garage temperature. However, see the policy below related to Post ratings.
If you are doing a Post rating, and the As-Is rating file contained garage components, you should not modify the temperature setting of those components in the Post rating. The new AHFC policy regarding use of Garage temperature only applies to new ratings.
